OpenAI Oracle integration deepens as Oracle embeds its ERP, HCM, and SCM applications directly into ChatGPT and launches a trio of AI-powered services.
Oracle AI Workspace brings Oracle data into ChatGPT
Oracle AI Workspace translates natural-language prompts into REST calls against Oracle Cloud applications. The workspace surfaces data from finance, procurement, and planning modules, allowing a new finance employee to ask ChatGPT about month-end close status and receive a consolidated view that respects the employee’s permissions.
The adapter returns JSON payloads that ChatGPT formats into conversational responses, keeping the user in a single chat window while the backend performs the heavy lifting. Oracle leverages its existing data integration layer and a lightweight adapter that maps ChatGPT prompts to Oracle REST endpoints.
New AI-powered products for security, SMBs, and app development
OpenAI and Oracle unveiled three new offerings that leverage OpenAI models.
Oracle AI Security Mesh – Uses OpenAI cyber models to scan applications and infrastructure for vulnerabilities. Oracle hosts the testing environment, ensuring scans stay within the customer’s authorized scope.
Oracle AI SMB Bundle – Packages ChatGPT Business and Codex with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure credits. The bundle targets small businesses that need to build products and manage operations without a dedicated dev team.
Oracle App Composer – Enables teams to build applications with Codex, connect them to approved Oracle data, and deploy them on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure. Deployment includes built-in permission and access controls, so apps run under the organization’s security policies.
Access OpenAI through Oracle Marketplace
U.S. Oracle customers can purchase OpenAI API, Codex, and ChatGPT Work through Oracle Marketplace. The purchase uses existing procurement workflows and Oracle Universal Credits, simplifying billing and compliance for enterprises that already use Oracle Cloud.
What developers can do now
Developers working in Oracle Cloud can:
- Call OpenAI models from within Oracle applications – Use the Oracle AI Workspace to embed ChatGPT responses directly into Oracle dashboards.
- Build custom AI apps with App Composer – Write code with Codex, connect to Oracle data, and deploy on OCI with a single click.
- Run security scans with AI Security Mesh – Trigger scans from the Oracle console and receive actionable vulnerability reports.
- Purchase OpenAI APIs via Oracle Marketplace – Avoid separate vendor contracts and keep spend consolidated.
Caveats and next steps
The announcement does not detail the authentication flow between ChatGPT and Oracle data. It also omits pricing tiers for the new products, leaving developers to infer costs from the Oracle Marketplace model. Future releases may expose API endpoints for the Oracle AI Workspace, enabling third-party integrations.
The partnership reflects a broader trend of cloud vendors embedding generative AI into their stacks. Whether Oracle’s approach will scale beyond the U.S. market remains to be seen.
